The Fine Print: A Stipulation
Because we believe in giving our Full Service clients lots of personal attention—and because we believe a mutual commitment to your success is vital to positive results—our team must feel excited about your writing in order to be able to work effectively with you. We are selective about our clientele because we believe in maintaining a positive spirit and good relationships in the writing community.
Full Service clients must be writing at the intermediate or advanced level—but if you have no background in publishing or writing, your natural writing instincts may be strong enough for our client list.
Writers join our Full Service client list by invitation only. To be considered for our Full Service, you must submit your writing to our Review Board. Keep in mind that 80% of writers are not accepted.
How Does Full Service Work?
Once you've received and carefully read the Review Board acceptance letter inviting you to join our Full Service, we will need to get you set up in our system (there is a one-time registration fee to cover our initial processing). One of the first things we'll need to do is ask you to fill out a few simple forms so that we can learn a bit more about you—your background, your hobbies, your writing experience and publication credits, and what you hope to achieve by working with Writer's Relief.
We take all the guesswork out of the submission process, and we answer all your important questions.
"How do I write a good cover or query letter?" We will write and proofread your strategic, personalized cover letter or query letter that's designed to get results. You will have final authority over all language and grammar (we don't do a thing without your approval). Your cover or query letters will be printed on your own letterhead or on our beautiful 24-lb. bond paper for a very professional look and feel.
"How do I format and proofread my writing?" We will professionally format and proofread your submission packet pages to meet industry standards. IMPORTANT: We prepare the pages you are actually submitting, whether poetry, stories, essays, or sample pages of a book: If you want us to prepare more than the pages you are submitting, standard proofreading rates will apply for those additional pages. We do not proofread entire book manuscripts without additional fees.
Our expert proofreaders will go over your writing with a fine-toothed comb, and their suggested corrections will be sent back to you for final approval. YOU have authority over any of their corrections (we won't change a comma without getting your permission). Many writers believe that their work is in ready-to-go shape. Even our most advanced and widely published writers are surprised (shocked, even) at how many errors they don't realize they make. That's why it's important to have another professional proofread your work before submitting. And the BEST part is that you don't have to make each and every correction yourself. We will spend however long it takes to create a clean, professional master copy of your work. You'll love the results!
"How do I know which agents or editors will like my book, story, or poem?" Once your cover or query letter is written and your draft page corrections have been approved by you, we'll then begin the process of identifying the best-suited markets for your writing. All you need to do is fill out a simple Work Cover sheet, indicating what topics and styles you feel your work represents (we'll carefully cross-check your suggestions to be sure they are accurate), and you'll tell us if/where/when a given work has been previously submitted. Then we'll research the agents or editors who will be most likely to "fall in love" with your writing.
At this point we'll target your work to 25 to 30 markets based on your publication history, length of work, content of work, reading dates, editorial preferences, topics included in your work, and other important criteria. For short prose and poetry, we target writing to print journals and to some reputable online literary magazines. Once all the pieces are in place, we will mail you your completed submission packet, including 1) mailing labels and corresponding individually addressed cover or query letters, 2) an easy-to-use, interactive file for making any online submissions, 3) a master copy of your submission.
