We Help You Submit Your Creative Writing
Writer's Relief is a highly recommended author's submission service, not a literary agency, publisher, publicist, self-publisher, or marketing company. We help creative writers get their work to the best-suited agents and editors in the most professional format possible.
If you've tried submitting your work but haven't seen the results you want—or if you simply would like to have more free time to focus on your writing—we can help.
At Writer's Relief we recognize and appreciate that many writers have developed independent submission strategies without submission assistance. Successful submissions are hard work, and we respect and value the efforts of individuals who persevere in the face of rejection letters and difficult odds. Making effective submissions requires diligence, countless hours of research and preparation, and even years devoted to technique and craft. It's a huge task!
Our company exists to ease the burden of the submission process and to help writers create an effective submission strategy. We've been doing this successfully since 1994!
If you've ever wanted professional assistance getting your writing into the right hands, we can help.

Our Promise
While other businesses have come and gone, Writer's Relief has been helping creative writers since 1994. Our ethics, diligence, and expertise have kept us in business for a long time. We are truly dedicated to the unique needs of creative writers. We are also dedicated to staying abreast of even the smallest changes in publishing-industry etiquette. We hold ourselves to the highest standards of ethics and excellence—that's why we've been around so long.
Our first and primary goal when working with any client is to prepare and help you create perfect submission packets for those literary agents and/or editors who are most likely to enjoy a specific work. We strive to make the submission process as successful and painless as possible for our clients. As your specialized personal assistants, we do the research and "legwork" to increase your acceptance rate AND save you valuable time.
Writer's Relief Staff And Office
Just for kicks, here's a slide show of the Writer's Relief staff at work (and at play) in our Hackensack office. Yes, you're welcome to laugh. If you want to connect with us, check us out on Facebook or Twitter!
We are a diverse group of people, and each of us brings a special talent to the company. Most of us are detail-oriented to the extreme—with personalities that encourage our clients to stay motivated as we keep them organized and on track. Others are expert researchers (and walking encyclopedias of literary markets). Some are currently or have been involved in publishing. We all have one thing in common: we enjoy the business of helping writers accomplish their goals. We’re writers, researchers, motivators, organizers, and savvy submission strategists. We work hard for our clients and are honored by the talented writers who trust us with their words.
The Story of Our Apostrophe
When Writer's Relief started helping creative writers submit their work in 1994, there was no other business like it. We are the original author's submission service. The business began when a friend of Writer's Relief President Ronnie L. Smith asked for help submitting her poetry. Ronnie developed and implemented a successful submission strategy on her friend's behalf, which enabled her friend to have more time to write AND submit in a more professional, targeted manner. Writer's Relief was born simply because one friend needed help from another, and although the business and client list have grown considerably, we continue to have close, personal relationships with all of our clients today.
We are called Writer's Relief—as opposed to Writers' Relief—because we believe in emphasizing close relationships with each and every one of our individual Full Service clients. We believe that mutual dedication is fundamental to mutual success. When you enroll in Writer's Relief, we specifically devote attention to you. To ensure good relationships with our clients—and with the larger writing community—writers join our Full Service program by invitation only.
We Keep You Organized and Save You Time
Any writer who has submitted his or her work knows that the process consumes valuable time and energy. It can be very discouraging. There are thousands of literary journals out there. There are thousands of literary agencies. Each has its own strict submission guidelines.
If a writer wants to submit one single story to 50 magazines, this is approximately how much time he or she might spend to do each task well:
- Research 50 literary magazines: 600 minutes or more to discover the 50 best-suited journals—and the hundreds of journals that are not right
- Writing a professional and strategic cover letter (not including research and learning the best format): 120 minutes
- Individually addressing each letter: 250 minutes (5 minutes per letter, allowing for time-eating mistakes)
- Creating 50 unique mailing labels: 25 minutes (this means you'd have to type up one label every 30 seconds)
- Stuffing and mailing envelopes: 120 minutes (if you've ever prepared submissions en masse, you know it can take this long)
- Developing a rudimentary system to track submissions and responses: 60 minutes
- Tracking responses to 50 submissions: 60 minutes
TOTAL TIME SAVINGS: 1235 minutes (over 20 hours!)
At Writer's Relief we have a database of thousands of journals, magazines, and agents who will read your work. Because we have received editors' and agents' comments from our clients since 1994, our knowledge of literary markets is detailed yet vast. You'll benefit from our thousands of hours of research—saving you precious time!
